Linksys Wireless N Gigabit Router Guide

Linksys has quite a few Wireless N Routers in it’s lineup that range in speed from a low of 300Mbps to a high of 750Mbps. Each one has different features. This table shows the differences between their products.

Both the Linksys E1200 and E1500 wireless routers are rated at a maximum wi-fi speed of 300 Mbps. These are both single band routers that operate at 2.4GHz. Designed for the cost conscious shopper who has moderate needs, both these routers will work for someone who has a 2 or 3 computer network and wants to share internet access for basic browsing. The E1500 includes SpeedBoost technology for greater transmission range as well as three receive streams, instead of two, making it a bit faster than the E1200. However, neither router is well suited to internet gaming or streaming of web content.

For a faster speeds of up to 600 Mbps, the Linkys E2500 also has the ability to transmit on both the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz band simulaneously to lessen interference. This dual band router is a good choice for more robust internet activities such as gaming and HD video streaming and for folks with larger wireless networks. It will also more easily handle multiple devices, such as wi-fi capable cell phones, internet enabled TVs and media players. However, the E2500 does not include SpeedBoost technology, nor does it have Gigabit ports for use in hard wiring network devices.

For slightly more cash than the E2500, the Linksys E3200 wireless N router adds another receive stream, a high power amplifier chip and comes with both SpeedBoost technology and four gigabit ports. It also has added USB features so that you can plug in a solid state drive which becomes shared storage that the entire network can have access to. A printer can also be plugged in and instantly becomes a network available printer. This is the ideal device for folks who want to use internet enabled TV, game consoles and streaming media devices. It is designed with the Home Theater user in mind and has advanced features, such as QoS traffic prioritization technology designed to deliver tnternet traffic efficiently for fast downloads, smooth video and music streaming, gaming and VoIP.

The top of the line Linksys E4200 Wireless N router is the fastest of the lineup with a maximum wi-fi speed rated at 750 Mbps. Designed for a premium home network experience, it is a simultaneous dual band router and also includes the added capacity of an additional transmit stream for a total of three transmit and three receive streams. It includes both SpeedBoost technology and four gigabit ports and also has the shared storage and shared printer capabilites of the E3200. The inclusion of built-in UPnP AV media server means you can seamlessly stream media files across your network. This is the router for folks with more robust internet streaming needs and for those who simply want the fastest and most advanced router they can buy.

All Linksys wireless-N routers are designed to be easy and fast to install and set up and all include state-of-the-art security.

Linksys, as part of Cisco, has been manufacturing reliable routers for years and is one of the most trusted names in internet devices.
