Shy Mary from Burien, WA
A girl, Mary, was very quiet in science class and never participated even though she always finished her work and did it well. She was recruited by one of the teachers in Sylvester Middle School in Burien, Washington to be a part of TechREACH. The small group of middle school girls and the encouraging teacher provided her the safe place she needed to come out of her shell. She began being very active and began shouting out answers and excitedly participating in the club program. After time her progress showed up in the classroom. She also began to raise her hand in class, participating regularly and conversing with the other students. The club gave her the confidence and time she needed to feel she could be a contributing class member.
